British grandfather, 77, drowns whilst snorkelling for the duration of Caribbean vacation with his spouse

A British grandfather has drowned whilst snorkelling in the course of a vacation in the Caribbean with his wife.

Gareth Weekes, 77, was on a sailing vacation onboard a yacht with his wife Alison off the coastline of St Vincent and the Grenadines when he died. 

Weekes, an avid sailor who has been described by his family members as a ‘wonderful’ father, experienced absent into the water to go snorkelling but he afterwards drowned. 

Tributes have because poured in for Weekes, the previous editor of the Bournemouth Daily Echo.

His eldest daughter, Veryan Canston, 40, informed the Day-to-day Echo: ‘Dad died he lived – using pitfalls, obtaining adventures, exploring the world and approaching lifestyle with boundless enthusiasm and a gung-ho zest for new activities. We are happy he was having all those adventures proper up till the finish.’

Weekes’ other daughter, Jenna Fansa, 43, who also worked as a journalist at the Echo, included: ‘Dad took a quite real interest in every person he fulfilled – jointly with his wit and engaging composing model, this produced him a quite proficient journalist.

‘Kindness ran through every little thing he did. He was a wonderful father. We are so incredibly lucky to have experienced him.’ 

Weekes was married to principal college instructor Diane for 35 decades until finally she died in 2004. The couple experienced three small children collectively – Veryan, Jenna and Bronwen. 

He later married Alison Hulls, who he was snorkeling with when the tragedy struck, in 2007. 

Alison, who lived with Weekes at their household in Clayhidon, Devon, reported: ‘Absolutely everybody described Gareth as a lovely guy. 

‘He had tremendous integrity and empathy with just about every human being he fulfilled and this is reflected in the mind-boggling reaction to his tragic and unexpected loss of life.’ 

Weekes also experienced two stepchildren – Poz Watson and Maddie Flint – as nicely as 11 grandchildren. He is survived by his two sisters, Carolyn Arthurs and Jane Revill. 

He grew up in South Wales and worked at a solicitors business in advance of setting up function as a journalist. He edited weekly newspapers in Tavistock and Salisbury prior to afterwards starting to be the editor of the Bournemouth Each day Echo.
