A spokesman for the Civil Guard confirmed: ‘We are investigating the demise of a British holidaymaker aged 24 in an incident which transpired on Thursday at cliffs in the Cap Martinet spot.

‘The investigation is at an early stage and it will just take extra time to get a clearer image of what specifically happened.’

The force spokesman included: ‘Firefighters, nearby police, Civil Guard and coastguards were being mobilised after the alarm was elevated.

‘The lifeless man’s system was recovered by a coastguard vessel.’

The same coastguards reportedly rescued two other adult men from the drinking water who are stated to have tried to rescue the British holidaymaker right after he ended up in the sea.

A coastguard helicopter known as the Helimer 221 participated in the operation.
