A British physiotherapist holidaying in Croatia with her two small children died following a freak lightning strike hit her suitable ear, an inquest has listened to.

Daniella DiMambro’s death has been explained as a ‘desperately unfortunate case’ by senior coroner for Nottingahmshire, Mairin Casey.

Ms DiMambro was stress-free on a beach in Split, Croatia, with her daughter on August 20, 2022, when she was struck by lightning.

‘The lightning strike is considered to have entered by way of the correct ear,’ Ms Casey explained at the Nottingham Council Home hearing on Wednesday. 

The mum was described to have been at a seaside close to Split with her daughter when the incident happened.

Ms DiMambro, 48, of Mansfield Road, Nottingham, was on ventilation in intensive treatment in Nottingham and her ailment was consistently reviewed.

She was put on seizure treatment and handled for a high physique temperature and urinary an infection.

The professional explained the mother-of-two and physiotherapist was not likely to make important neurological enhancement.

‘This is a really strange and desperately unfortunate case,’ Ms Casey, who opened and concluded the inquest at the same hearing, said.

‘It appears to be so strange, the appropriate summary is narrative. I obtain she was struck by lightning on August 20, 2022. This prompted accidents which in the end led to her demise in the British isles on Oct 7.

‘Her demise was because of to a lightning strike, main to cardiac arrest and hypoxic ischemic brain injury.’ 

Ms Casey ended by expressing her honest condolences to Ms DiMambro’s family and little ones, who have been not at the brief hearing.

A JustGiving website page has been set up in her memory, which is fundraising for The Brain Charity, and donations have risen to £115.

Details of her funeral have been posted on her public webpage, DiMambro Pilates Physiotherapy, to be held on Friday, October 28, at 9am at Gedling Crematorium, Catfoot Lane, NG4 4QH.
