Serengeti conservation formal Fredy Shirima informed the BBC that the more youthful rivals would have been plotting to depose their leader. 

‘These incidents typically happen when the head of a pride gets aged or in some cases when the other male lions are not pleased with his regulate more than a significant territory.’
