Ravindra Jadeja could do no wrong on Sunday and his all-round heroics helped Chennai Super Kings end Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 4-match winning streak in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Ravindra Jadeja first smashed an unbeaten 62 off 28 balls which included a 37-run final over off Harshal Patel, the Purple Cap holder in IPL 2021. Jadeja hit as many as 5 sixes and a boundary in the final over to lift CSK from 154 for 4 to 191 for 4 in a span of 6 deliveries.

And then with the ball, Jadeja struck in each of his first two overs to snare Washington Sundar and the dangerous Glenn Maxwell as RCB managed 122 for 9 in their chase of 192 for their 5th straight win this season which was not meant to be.

With the emphatic win, Chennai Super Kings managed to displace Royal Challengers Bangalore from the top of the IPL 2021 points table.

After 28-ball 62, Jadeja steamrolls RCB with the ball

Jadeja then completed a remarkable spell of spin-bowling, picking up the big wicket of AB de Villiers for 4. The South African superstar got completely outfoxed by the left-arm spinner who hit the stumps once again.

Jadeja finished with figures of 3/13 in 4 overs as he got a standing ovation from the team owners and teammates at the Wankhede Stadium. To go with the game-changing bowling spell, Jadeja also ran Dan Christian out for 1 with a direct hit. Notably, it was Christian who dropped the all-rounder when he was batting on 0.

Jadeja’s contribution to CSK vs RCB: 62 runs from 28 balls, 3/13 and a run-out. It seemed as if it was Jadeja vs RCB on Sunday and the CSK all-rounder won the battle, hands down.

Leg-spinner Imran Thair, playing his first game for IPL 2021, shone with figures of 2/16 as the two Chennai spinners put the choke on Bangalore batsmen. Barring Devdutt Padikkal (34), Glenn Maxwell (22), Kyle Jamieson (16) and Mohammed Siraj (12), none of the other Bangalore batsmen managed double-digit scores on Sunday.

Faf du Plessis shines yet again

Earlier, after opting to field first, Chennai Super Kings had got off to a solid start courtesy Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaekwad. du Plessis completed his second successive half-century and was looking good alongside Suresh Raina, who batted at No.3 on Sunday.

However, Harshal Patel removed the well-set Raina and du Plessis off successive deliveries. RCB applied the brakes in the middle overs and looked in control even after Daniel Christian had dropped Ravindra Jadeja on 0.

Ambati Rayudu struggled to get going and eventually became Patel’s 3rd victim of the match but with Jadeja in the middle, CSK had hopes of a score in the vicinity of 170.

It all changed in the final over when Jadeja took 37 off Patel including 5 sixes and a 4.

In response, RCB got off to a quick start thanks to Devdutt Padikkal. The young left-handed batsman was on fire even as Virat Kohli fell cheaply to Sam Curran. But Padikkal’s cameo was cut short by Shardul Thakur in his first over before Jadeja took out Washington Sundar and Glenn Maxwell off successive overs.
