RR vs RCB, IPL 2021: Highlights | Report

It was Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli’s opening partnership which took them past the target of 178 with 21 balls to spare after a superb performance by the bowlers helped them restrict RR to 177 for 9 in 20 overs. It is the third-highest target chased down in the IPL without losing a wicket.

Padikkal became the second centurion in the IPL this season and also broke into the top-3 on the list of the youngest centurions in the tournament.

Manish Pandey holds the record for being the youngest to hit a hundred in the IPL and for RCB when he scored a match-winning 114 not out against Deccan Chargers in 2009 at the age of 19 years and 253 days.

Delhi Capitals’ current skipper Rishabh Pant was the second youngest to hit a ton when he scored 128 not out in a losing cause against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2018 at the age of 20 years and 218 days while Padikkal scored a match-winning 101 not out against RR at the age of 20 years and 289 days, also making him the youngest to reach triple figures in an IPL run chase.

His knock also put RCB on top of the list of teams with the most centuries in the IPL. The Royal Challengers now have 14 centuries in total followed by Punjab Kings (13) and Delhi Capitals (10).

The match also saw RCB skipper Kohli reach a new milestone as he became the first batsman to breach the 6000-run mark in the IPL when he took his 51st run in the 13th over of the run chase.

The 32-year-old is comfortably placed on top of the list of batsmen with most runs in the IPL with 6021 from 196 games at 38.35 with 5 centuries and 40 fifties.
