- KKR suffered their 3rd straight loss of IPL 2021 after failing to chase 221 vs CSK
Bollywood superstar and Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan came up with a morale-boosting reaction to the team’s 18-run loss to Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Shah Rukh Khan, who did not hold back while expressing his disappointment after KKR imploded against Mumbai Indians in Chennai last week, urged the side to be more consistent. Shah Rukh had apologised to KKR fans after their ordinary performance against the defending champions who successfully defended 152.
However, on Wednesday, Shah Rukh pointed out at the positives, highlighting the valiant efforts from Andre Russell, Dinesh karthik and Pat Cummins despite their failed chase of 221 against CSK in Mumbai.
“Coulda…woulda…shoulda can take a backseat tonight… @kkriders was quite awesome I feel. ( oops if we can forget the batting power play!!) well done boys… @ar12russell @patcummins30 @dk00019 try and make this a habit…we will be back!!” Shah Rukh Khan said in a social media post.
It was KKR’s third straight defeat as the two-time champions are struggling to find consistency in IPL 2021. KKR were reduced to 31 for 5 after their top-order was blown away by Deepak Chahar. The likes of Shubman Gill (0), captain Eoin Morgan (7) and Sunil Narine (4) failed in the powerplay as KKR looked like they would suffer a defeat by a big margin.
However, Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik rescued the team and gave their fans slender hopes of a miraculous victory. 81 runs for the 6th wicket in just 6 overs before Russell (22-ball 54) was bowled around his legs by Sam Curran in the 12th over.
Karthik hit 40 from 24 but the former captain fell in the 15th over. Just when CSK were looking to wrap things up early, Cummins came up with a brutal onslaught, taking the CSK pacers to the cleaners at the Wankhede.
Cummins hit 6 sixes and 4 boundaries for his 34-ball 66 not out but he ran out of partners as KKR were bowled out for 202 in the 20th over.
KKR will be looking to bounce back when they take on former champions Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai on Saturday, April 24.
