The Three most common non-academic reasons for application rejection in the medical college

If you think that a high GPA or strong MCAT scores are enough to get you your desired medical college, then you are mistaken. For example, did you know that approximately 50000 students apply to medical colleges every year, but approximately 60 percent get rejected!

And of course, the academic reasons couldn’t be the only criterion for accepting less than half the students in prestigious medical colleges. So most of the students who got selected were admitted to have hired Medical School Admission Consulting Services to help them get through the admission.

According to medical school admission officers, only 32 percent out of 60 get rejected for a low MCAT score, i.e., below 501, but why are the rest with good MCAT or GPA also rejected?

The rejected candidates didn’t stand out!

With the limited number of seats, admission criteria can become more complex, demanding more originality and a captivating tone. Medical studies can be very hard and preoccupy most of your time, so it’s common to see applicants with no extracurricular activities in hand. Sometimes, to get through the process, candidates also fake up some scenarios.

In all ways, this is wrong. The medical field is a diverse culture where doctors are expected to treat patients, interact with them, and calmly handle any emergencies. For this reason, everyone enjoys a candidate who is fun and has explored his horizons. What are you thinking? Go on a trek, or write a poem that is stuck in your mind. Try stand-ups if you think you are humorous or volunteer in any of your favorite activities.

Medical School Admission Advisors can also help you write effective and dynamic personal statements that will leave a lasting impression on the interviewers.

The rejected candidate did not complete the Pre-Med Checklist:

Basic volunteering, shadowing, and research are not sufficient to get you through the admission. It’s advisable to withhold your competition until you par it up with the competition. To cover the pre-med checklist, you should pursue the following-

  • 200+ of clinical volunteering and shadowing
  • 200+ of nonclinical volunteering
  • Six months or more of extensive research
  • At least two or more leadership positions.

The rejected candidates had below-average letters of recommendation:

You can get five or more letters of recommendation, but you can still get rejected based on the quality of the letter. A recommendation letter is considered excellent depending upon the stories and experiences a professor, mentor, or doctor can tell about you.

It doesn’t matter whether the recommendation is from a prestigious doctor; what matters is the experience he shared with you. A small but impactful letter from your high school professor can be more rewarding than a copy-pasted letter from a powerful person.

Your letters of recommendations should tell about your characteristics and achievement, through the eyes of the people you’ve worked with. It might be considered bragging if you tell the same thing, which won’t be taken much seriously.

Therefore:

These are just a handful out of many reasons not related to academics that might hamper your admission. Applying to medical school can be an overwhelming experience, especially when you do not have enough guidance. The Best Medical School Admissions Consulting will help you achieve your goal through the best possible advice. If you wish to know which fields you are lacking, consult an authorized and experienced Med School that will help you throughout your journey.
