Middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav has finally got the chance to make his debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Punjab Kings in Chennai on Wednesday.
Jadhav has replaced Abdul Samad in SRH’s playing XI. Samad has a hamstring injury and therefore, will miss this game along with Manish Pandey, SRH skipper David Warner confirmed at the toss and also revealed that former skipper Kane Williamson will also play his first game for the team this season.
Jadhav is going to make his debut on a ground where he had spent two seasons with the Chennai Super Kings, who released him from their squad before the IPL 2021 auction in February this year.
Jadhav endured 3 difficult seasons at CSK where he joined in 2018 but didn’t play regularly due to his lack of form. He missed the entire IPL 2018 after picking up an injury in the first game and the next two seasons he averaged 18 and 20.66 in 12 and 5 games, respectively.
He went unsold in the first round of the mini-auction this year before being picked up by SRH at his base price of Rs 2 crore. He has finally got the opportunity to prove the critics wrong after sitting out the first three games of SRH’s campaign this season.
SRH have made their worst-ever start in the IPL this season having lost all three games so far and are placed dead last on the points table.
“Everyone in this franchise are positive – need to learn from the mistakes, those little things in the game. Kane Williamson is in, he replaces Mujeeb.
“Samad is out with a hamstring pull, Kedar replaces him, Manish misses out as well, replaced by Siddarth Kaul. Conditions over here are very different to what we encountered in Dubai last season. Need to bowl well and get back to winning ways,” Warner said at the toss.
