Punjab Kings batsman KL Rahul on Wednesday added yet another feather to his cap as he completed 5000 runs in T20 cricket during the ongoing Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai.

Rahul was 1 short of the milestone before this game and he got there off the very first ball of the match bowled by off-spinner Abhishek Sharma after Punjab won the toss and opted to bat first at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Rahul is the second fastest batsman to achieve the feat after his PBKS teammate Chris Gayle, who got to the landmark in 132. Rahul is playing his 143rd innings in this match and just overtook Australian Shaun Marsh, who took 144 innings to score 5000 T20 runs.

Rahul is also the fastest Indian batsman to enter the 5k club, beating the long-standing record held by Virat Kohli (167) followed by Suresh Raina (173).

Rahul got out cheaply against Sunrisers after being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 4 (6 balls) in the fourth over of the match. He was caught by SRH debutant Kedar Jadhav at mid-wicket.

It was the second failure for the PBKS skipper who had scores of 61, 5 and 91 before this game in IPL 2021. He currently occupies the 3rd position on the list of batsmen with the most runs this season with 161 runs from 4 games at an average of 40.25 and a strike rate of 141.22.
