Spectacular footage shows drug runners land their boat on beach at Mallorca holiday resort after speedboat chase with police…before helicopter follows them as they run through streets

Astounding footage shows drug runners racing away from police and sprinting through bewildered tourists at a holiday resort in the moments before 1,200 kilograms of hashish was confiscated.

The Mallorca Civil Guard shared the video of the inflatable boat approaching the island’s coast at high speed from the direction of North Africa.

At 4am last Friday, the boat was spotted being loaded by two all-terrain vehicles in Cala Sa Nu with bales of hashish and 68 barrels of gasoline.

The drug runners fled out to sea after they realised they had been seen by police, leading to the dramatic chase, as officials knew they did not have enough fuel for a long sea journey.

The desperate suspects beached their boat at high speed after a dramatic maritime chase before terrifying bewildered sunbathing tourists who were relaxing at their Mallorca resort.

The chase begins as police boats close in on the drug runners, following them towards land, as the RIB they’re in bounces over waves.

Officials had tracked down the boat, which still had the drugs aboard, during the course of the morning, and police officers were waiting on land to intercept the suspects.

The drug runners beach their boat at high speed before they disembark on foot, running across the sand in an attempt to escape the authorities.

A helicopter following the location of the suspected criminals captures them sprinting through the resort, narrowly avoiding tourists and sunbeds, before they are detained.

The Civil Guard seized 31 bales of hashish pollen weighing 1,200 kilograms and arrested three people.

It said in a statement that: ‘Intercepted a narcolancha [speedboat used for drug running] that was heading at high speed to the coast of Mallorca from North Africa.’

The use of high-speed inflatable boats – also known as RIBs – for drug running has become a more serious problem for Spanish officials.

Police recently boarded an abandoned narco submarine ‘ghost ship’ found off Spain’s coast.

Footage shows only the bow of the 15m (50ft) semi-submersible emerging from the waves and authorities inspecting the vessel, which was in an almost vertical position

The 50ft semi-submersible was spotted sinking in Vilagarcia de Arousa, off the coast of Spain’s northern Pontevedra province in the Galicia region.

Footage shows only the bow of the craft emerging from the waves and authorities inspecting the vessel, which was in an almost vertical position.

It is unclear if there are still narcotics on board or if it was sunk deliberately after cargo was unloaded.

The Civil Guard said: ‘Our colleagues at the GEAS (Special Group of Underwater Activities) are trying to retrieve it.’

The narc submarine find came just days after the Colombian Navy seized a 49ft-long submarine with more than 2.6 tons of cocaine and two dead bodies on board in the Pacific Ocean on Sunday.
