‘Is this a dream?’ Touching moment Ukrainian boy, 6, is left in disbelief when his father returns from the war

A six-year-old Ukrainian boy thought he was dreaming when his father returned from the war unexpectedly in the middle of the night.

The emotional moment was caught on film by the boy’s mother Alyona Berezovskyi, 27, who wanted to remember the moment her partner Evgen Berezovskyi, 33, made it home.

In the clip, filmed in the Ukrainian city of Zviahel, Stanislav Berezovskyi is seen soundly sleeping before his father walks into the room – and he wakes up in disbelief.

The father and son embrace for a moment, before the six-year-old goes back to bed.

Then, when he wakes again in the morning, Stanislav thinks it was all a dream.

He tells his mother: ‘I had a dream that dad had already arrived at 12pm.’

His mother then takes him through the house, and it becomes clear his father really has returned from the fight.

The family were left in tears of joy – and they hope the scene can be replicated across the country, where the 14-month war with Russia wages on.

Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, with a number of cities in the east and south now under Russian occupation – and fierce fighting still under way.

Ms Berezovskyi said: ‘My son thought that the night arrival of his dad from the war was just a dream, but it turned out to be true.

‘I was anticipating the reaction of my son, there was so much joy for him and it was a great relief that my husband and father of my child is back at home and back with his family.

‘The feeling of safety and tenderness was overwhelming from my son’s reaction.

‘We had tears and joy at the same time, we are both very grateful to him for protecting our country.

‘We have the hope that the war will end soon and every child will meet their father returning from the war.’

It comes as a new leak of classified documents revealed that the scale of infighting inside Moscow’s government agencies may be greater than previously understood.

The documents, separate from the leak of alleged US intelligence widely reported on in recent days, claim that the Russian government is feuding over the numbers of casualties its armies have suffered fighting in Ukraine.

The new batch of 27 pages also reveal how Vladimir Putin was forced to hold a peace summit between two of his most high-profile Warlords – and how deeply US spy agencies have penetrated the despot’s intelligence network and command.

It also suggests that the earlier breach of American intelligence agencies could contain even more material than has already been released to the public.
