Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli became the first cricketer to score 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League during the 16th match of IPL 2021 against Rajasthan Royals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Kohli reached the milestone in the 13th over of the second innings at Wankhede. Kohli hasn’t had the best of starts, having managed just 71 runs in 3 matches. Kohli was dismissed for 5 against Kolkata Knight Riders in their previous outing.
Virat Kohli averages over 50 in all 3 formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is. On Friday, before the 16th IPL 2021 match between RCB and RR, Kohli needed 51 to reach the milestone of 6000 runs in the Indian Premier League.
Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the Indian Premier League 6, 021 runs from 196 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2016, he smashed all IPL records with 973 runs including 4 hundred from 16 matches as RCB staged a remarkable recovery to storm into the final against eventual champions Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The India captain is on top of the list, with the nearest rival being Chennai Super Kings star Suresh Raina. The former India cricketer has 5368 runs in 193 matches.
Kohli has not been at his best in the IPL in the recent past. However, he has still managed to stitch two 400-plus seasons on the trot. Having hit peak form in the T20 series and the ODI series against England, Kohli will look to do the bulk of the scoring. Keep in mind, the RCB skipper will be opening the batting for his franchise this year.
