A mysterious purple cloud that eerily hung about a city in Chile has baffled locals and officers.
The brightly coloured cloud hovered minimal around Pozo Almonte in the north of the South American region on Sunday morning.
Officials are now investigating the phenomenon and imagine it may perhaps have been brought about by a pump failure at a minerals plant.

It was noticed near to the Cala Cala mine, which belongs to the Saltpetre and Iodine Business (Cosayach).
Christian Ibanez – deputy head of Chile’s Tarapaca Region – stated: ‘We are carrying out an inspection, which tells us that this incident was thanks to the failure of a motor of the impeller pump.’
Environmental official Emanuel Ibarra reported the pump failure experienced prompted iodine at the plant to improve from a stable to a gaseous condition.
